Welcome to the Copa Iberica 2026! It is a pleasure for Ultimate Sevilla to host the Copa Iberica. We want ithis edition of the tournament to be an unforgettable and enjoyable experience. At Ultimate Seville, we thrive on the development of Ultimate Frisbee in the Iberian Peninsula and by being part of this tournament you're actively supporting the cause! Thank you!
Below you'll find all the information you need to enjoy this tournament. If you need any help, have any questions, or would like to share suggestions, you can contact us at ibericacopa@gmail.com or via our WhatsApp +34 641 20 97 44.
Following the recommendations of the USA Ultimate Gender Inclusion Policy, we acknowledge that not all gender identities are binary, and that assuming a gender binary as the norm for participation may cause some people to feel excluded or unsafe. Therefore, the Iberian Cup will not discriminate on the basis of gender identity, regardless of sex assigned at birth or any other form of gender expression, with respect to participation in the tournament.
We affirm that people of all gender identities should have the freedom to participate in sporting events such as this one in the division in which they feel most comfortable and safe according to their gender identity, and that they should be recognized, respected, and included at all levels of the sport. We strongly encourage all organizers, leagues, tournaments, clinics, and events to adopt this statement as written and to foster an open and inclusive environment across all ultimate programs.
Thanks to the inspiring work of European teams in promoting inclusion and diversity, as well as the best practices outlined by the European Ultimate Federation, we have implemented several measures that we wish to promote. For our club, it is important that all teams participating in the Iberian Cup are aware of and apply these guidelines, trusting that they will not only ensure a better environment for the development and enjoyment of our sport, but will also foster valuable learning opportunities for our entire community.
Guidelines
The categories Male Matching Players (MMP) and Female Matching Players (FMP) will be used as references for team composition on the field, promoting the use of language that does not link players’ personal identities to their roles in the game and that embraces the diversity of gender identities, including those that do not conform to the gender binary.
Gender-matching signals will be used on the offensive line to help the defending team identify the players they need to defend, without making assumptions about their gender identity. In accordance with the current WFDF rules, the players who form the majority during that point will make the corresponding signal for their role as MMP or FMP.
Designated points of contact will be available to address any matters related to the inclusion of all players throughout the tournament.
We encourage participating teams to apply these guidelines. We are excited to continue growing our sport by fostering diversity. Please feel free to raise any questions or concerns, as well as to suggest additional measures that could further enhance this objective.
Competition format and definition of the final ranking
The tournament will be contested with 12 teams, initially organized in a group stage followed by a knockout stage with full classification from 1st to 12th place.
1. Group Stage
The teams will be divided into three (3) groups of four (4) teams each (Groups A, B and C).
The group stage will be played in a round robin format, so each team will play three (3) matches, facing each opponent in their group once.
At the end of this phase, the teams in each group will be ranked from 1st to 4th place, according to the tie-breaking criteria established in the regulations.
2. Transition to global ranking and crossover phase
Crossover of second places
The winners of each group advance directly to the semi-finals.
The two best second-place teams will play a crossover match (aka “Knockout 1”) to advance to the semifinals. The winner of this match will advance to the Upper Bracket (1st–4th places). The loser will move to the Middle Bracket (5th–8th places). The third-place team (lowest ranked among the second-place teams) will advance directly to the Middle Bracket.
Crossover of third positions
The best third-place finisher will directly advance to the Middle bracket (5th-8th).
The two worst third-placed teams will play a crossover match to qualify for the middle bracket (aka “Knockout 2”). The winner will advance to the Middle Bracket (5th–8th places). The loser will move to the Lower Bracket (9th–12th places).
The three teams finishing 4th in their groups will also play in the lower bracket.
3. Elimination Phase and Final Classification
Once the brackets are defined, the tournament will continue with three parallel elimination rounds:
Higher Bracket (positions 1–4)
It will consist of:
The top three finishers from groups A, B and C.
The winner of the second place crossover.
These four teams will play in the semi-finals, followed by a final (1st–2nd) and a match for 3rd and 4th place.
Medium Bracket (positions 5th–8th)
It will consist of:
The loser of the second place crossover (Knockout 1).
The worst second (3rd second).
The best third-place finisher.
The winner of the third position crossover (Knockout 2).
These teams will play in the semifinals, followed by matches to determine 5th-6th and 7th-8th place.
Lower Bracket (positions 9th–12th)
It will consist of:
The three teams that finished fourth in their groups.
The loser of the third position crossover (Knockout 2).
These teams will play in the semifinals, followed by matches to determine 9th–10th and 11th–12th place.
4. Playing time and target score
Match duration
The defined duration for the matches is seventy (70) minutes with twenty-minute (20) break between matches.
The matches will end when the first of the following two situations occurs:
A team reaches fifteen (15) points (target score).
The target time elapses, seventy (70) minutes.
If the target time is reached and the target score has not been reached, the Cap+1 rule will be applied to end the match.
Half-time
At halftime, the offensive and defensive lineups and end zones will change according to the starting lineup, for which two (2) minutes are allowed. This will be done when the first of the following two situations occurs:
One team reaches eight (8) points (target score).
Half of the target time has elapsed, thirty-five (35) minutes.
If the target time is reached and the target score has not been reached, the Cap+1 rule will be applied to determine the new target score that will mark the end of the first half.
Time outs
Each team has two (2) time-outs during the game
The duration of a time-out is seventy-five (75) seconds.
You can request a timeout at any time during the game, unless we are in the Cap+1 at the end of the game: you can request a timeout during the Cap+1 before halftime, but not during the Cap+1 that concludes the game.
5. Tie-breaking system
Victories
InVictories: direct comparison.
Score difference direct comparison.
Score difference.
Number of goals.
Skill test (one representative from each team will throw a disc towards a target, whoever gets closest to the target wins).
Final considerations
The official WFDF 2025-2028 rules will be followed, including the gender ratio system, in a real mixed format. Captains and SOTG captains must submit the advanced certificate of the WFDF. All players are encourage to make active use of hand signals during the game. Before the pull, it is very important that the offense indicates the gendering ratio.
There will be one person to record the score and keep track of game times (match, half time and timeouts), call resolution times must be managed autonomously within the field.
Pairings and tie-breaking criteria will be automatically generated through the Ultimate Tournament app. We recommend downloading the app once the championship begins to follow schedules and results. A link to track results and rankings will be shared at the start of the championship.
On Sunday, one of the soccer fields must be freed up between 10:50 and 12:00 due to a specific activity of the Pablo de Olavide University.
The time slot in which the matches will be played will be:
9:00 to 18:00 saturday
9:00 to 16:00 sunday
16:00 to 17:00 Award ceremony.
Both fields will be located at Universidad Pablo de Olavide. Below you’ll find all the information you need to arrive safe and sound. You’ll also receive a direct Google Maps link to the field parking area.
How to get there
By bus: Bus route 38 will drop you right in front of the Pablo de Olavide metro stop and next to the fields. Giving detailed directions would be a bit cumbersome, so we trust you’ll manage just fine using Google Maps or Moovit.
By metro: There is only one metro line in Seville. Take it in the direction Olivar de Quintos and get off at Pablo de Olavide station.
By car: If you’re coming by car, you can use the designated parking area or any of the nearby parking spots.
About the facilities
The event will take place on the artificial turf fields of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide. The campus is open to the public and has no access control. While the area is usually frequented only by students and university staff, we recommend keeping your belongings within sight at all times.
The organization is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Final considerations
Physiotherapist: A physiotherapy service will be available for all tournament participants. Please note that there will be one physiotherapist attending all players, so we ask for patience and fair use.
Food tent: You’ll find ingredients to build your own sandwiches and other snacks, available without limit. Help yourself freely but responsibly—we want to avoid food waste. Drinks are not included and must be purchased separately.
Merchandise tent: A wide range of sports items will be available so you can refresh your wardrobe or grab that piece of gear or gadget you’ve been missing on the field.
Changing rooms: Separate men’s and women’s changing rooms will be available. Please help us keep them clean, use them responsibly, and report any issues to the organization.
Because ultimate frisbee is more than just throwing discs, we'd like to invite you to a get-together to close out the first day of the tournament. This will be a relaxed space to socialize, get to know each other better, and enjoy some great music.

1. Sports footwear
Bring proper sports shoes. We will be playing on artificial turf, so turf shoes (TF) or artificial grass cleats (AG) are strongly recommended.
2. Warm clothing
Seville is not known for harsh winters, and at this time of year temperatures usually range between 8 and 18 °C. We recommend bringing a jacket to avoid catching a cold. Rain is uncommon, but it’s still a good idea to pack a rain jacket or windbreaker, which will also be useful between games or while resting. Sunny and pleasant days are expected, but a well-prepared athlete is always better off.
3. Food
Dinner is not included. We encourage you to take advantage of your visit and enjoy a pleasant evening on a terrace while experiencing local tapas culture. Here you have a great list of recommended places, with options for all tastes.
Breakfast is not included either, but we will have an open sandwich bar, so if you have a light breakfast, you’ll be able to top it off at the tournament.
4. The best energy
We want this event to be an opportunity to build connections and grow together. Bring your competitive spirit at full power, without losing the good vibes—this is Ultimate Frisbee, and our foundation is the Spirit of the Game.
Seville has excellent transport connections, including a high-speed train station, a bus station, and an international airport.
Flying is my choice: If you arrive by plane, the journey from Seville Airport to the city center takes around 20 minutes. You have several options: Ride-hailing services (Cabify, Uber) taxi service, with an approximate cost of €20 (depending on your destination) Airport bus service, costing €5, with departures every 20 minutes. You can find more information on the airport’s official website.
I love train tracks: Seville is well connected by high-speed rail. You can travel from Madrid with Iryio or RENFE , as well as from other cities across Spain. Keep in mind that RENFE offers an 8% discount for group bookings of 4 or more people, but this discount is only available when purchasing tickets at ticket offices or by phone.
Bus is always cheaper: Most long-distance buses arrive at the Plaza de Armas Bus Station. From Madrid, you can buy tickets through SOCIBUS, from other parts of Spain or Portugal ALSA.
I’ll come by bike: We’ve never seen this happen, but Google Maps will be your best ally. If you manage to pull off such a feat, you’ll earn free player registration for life plus an honorary mention (not applicable to Seville residents 😉).
We’re sorry we can’t host you at our place—you’re a lot of people 😄. However, Onefam and For You Hostel are official tournament partners and offer participants a discount on accommodation, whether you book individual beds or entire rooms.
